Yoda, Defender of Kashyyk – Geektopia Games

Yoda, Defender of Kashyyk

Minor(s): 2 Wookie Warriors

It took us a while to create a Yoda deck that could stand up to the Darth Sidious deck, but once we did, this became a staple of a Duels night.

What does this deck do:  Tanks extremely well.  Gets to you almost anywhere and unleashes a lot of offense.

Theme: A quick-striking leader of Wookies
Path to Victory: WAR CRY + Multiple FLURRIES + BLUR/NOT IF ANYTHING TO SAY ABOUT IT, I HAVE/DECAPITATION
Strengths: High defense, can move anywhere on the board with WAR CRY, kills minors, has strong minors
Weaknesses: Needs to build up a hand to be effective, loses movement ability if he loses the Wookies.
Strategy: Stay away, wait for the right moment to unload
Test Level: High
Tier: 1

Inspiration: We got tired of seeing Yoda all wise and insightful get his green butt routinely kicked by the tough guys, struggle to kill weak minors, and have little resemblance to the swordsman we saw in Episodes 2 and 3. We’d have to tweak his original deck too far to get what we wanted, so we just started over. Here he is in one of his finest moments, flanked by powerful Wookie warriors he can climb onto and who are immune to Sidious’ ORDER 66.

Playing Yoda: This is sluggo Yoda with a complete game and one of Geektopia’s most powerful decks, by design. When Yoda can get a good game out of the Wookies, he’s nearly unbeatable. In a game with many important, high-HP minors, WAR CRY + DECAPITATION can be a game-changing combination. Another powerful combination is using WAR CRY to get to anyone on the board, and unlike his previous self, Yoda can follow it up with enough offense to take down the toughest foes. Yoda needs to stockpile and try to put together a few FLURRIES. Whether to play NOT IF ANYTHING TO SAY I HAVE as an attack or defense is a major decision you have to make but we usually see it used as an attack.

Playing against Yoda: WAR CRY and BLUR mean you might not be safe no matter where you are. Especially if the Wookies are still alive. Keep minors spread out from DECPATITATION. The rest of his deck is straightforward, best bet is to disrupt his stockpiling game and keep the heat on him since he has low HP. The Wookies make obvious early targets, but if they come up with the necessary defense, you’re in for a tough game. Even this Yoda is still susceptible to direct damage, but you’re probably better off targeting his allies early in the game and leaving him for last.
